24 Hour Day | Development

This is a photograph of the flush button on a toilet, I took this photograph to represent someone using the toilet in the morning. I took a close up of the button so that you could see the circle in the middle of it. The composition of this photograph enhances the shapes as it has been placed in the centre, with the same amount of white space around the subject area. The metallic silver colour reflects the light from the window in the bathroom, which brightens up the photograph.
This photograph represents a tap, I took this photograph because I like the circle of the 'hot' symbol and I also really like the way each of the four handles create a circle-like effect at the ends. I took this photograph with the natural lighting from my bathroom but I also made the ISO a little bit higher, to add more light to the photograph. The white wall behind the metallic silver colour of the taps also adds light and it really enhances the shape of the tap. The bold black letters draws your attention into the circle shape that is created on the handle.
I took this photograph of my toilet roll to represent using the toilet, in this photograph I have captured three different sized circles which represent the same thing. I have taken Sam Kaplan's technique of using a birds eye view to capture this photograph, I have done this because I wanted to get the full circle of the toilet roll and not chop any of it off. By using this angle to take the photograph it has also enhanced the shape of the circle and it is a lot clearer taken this way. I have cropped this photograph down so it has the same amount of spacing around each side of the toilet roll. I did this because I wanted to make the photograph balanced and focused on my chosen subject area. I captured this photograph in my bathroom using the natural light that came from the window, this has created a shadow on the left hand side of the toilet roll, if I wanted to develop this image further I would take the toilet roll into the studio so I would have the right amount of light and less shadows, but I like the silver toilet roll holder which is present in the middle of the toilet roll and by taking this photograph in the studio I would loose that and I would have less circles in the image.

I used Tom Leighton's technique of taking the photograph below from an above angle, I did this because it captures the whole subject area and enhances the circle shape of the mug. I placed the mug onto a white background, I did this because it brightens up the photograph and adds depth to the image. This photograph represents 'breakfast time'. I chose tea because I normally drink a cup of tea in the mornings with my breakfast. This photograph has a landscape composition, I chose to capture this photograph in landscape because I wanted to keep the handle of the mug in the photograph. By placing the handle in the space on the right hand side of the image, open ups the photograph and creates lines, which adds depth within the image.

The photograph below is an image of traffic lights, I took this photograph because you see traffic lights nearly everyday in your daily routine, and the lights are circular. I managed to take this photograph when the lights were on red but I would like to take a couple more, when they are on amber and green. I want to do this so then I will have more choice to pick and develop from. The buildings in the background are distracting but it's hard to find a set of traffic lights without a distracting background. For my final piece I will be cutting around the circle of the lights so the background won't be there.

Again I used Tom Leighton and Sam Kaplan's technique of taking the photograph from the above angle. I did this because it enhances the shape of the circle. I took this photograph using natural lighting in my bedroom but it has created a shadow on the left pot, to develop this further I am going to re-shoot this photograph using the studio lights, because I think that the shadow is distracting and it adds a dark shading over the colour of the foundation. I took this photograph of a pot with Giorgio Armani foundation in, with the lid next to it, to show that circles are in signs and logos. This image represents makeup that is used on a daily bases.

I took this photograph of the clock to represent circles in time. I edited this photograph so it was black and white, I did this because it gives the photograph more depth. It also enhances the textures on the wall behind the clock, which adds a dramatic atmosphere to the image. I captured this photograph in portrait because I wanted to keep the shaping of the clock, the handles at the top create shaping and I didn't want any plain white space to distract it. I took this photograph using natural light from the window (which was coming from the right side of the photograph). I like the effect that this has created because it has given a shadow on the left side of the image, this brings out the shape of the clock and enhances the contrast between the black and white shading. For my final piece I want to capture a photograph for each hour in the day and for 1-2 of the images I want to represent time, using a clock to show that. I like the contrast and shaping of this clock, so I will develop this image further for my final piece. I want to take photographs or the clock when the time hits the hour because for my final piece I have a photograph for each hour of the day.

This is an image inspired by sill life photographer Dennis Pedersen. I wanted to explore the way Pedersen captures still life images of different makeup paint pots. I wanted to capture makeup that I wear on a daily bases to show that makeup is a vital part of my daily routine. I placed this pot on a white surface to enhance the shape and colour of the makeup. I also did this because I didn't want any distractions of a different colour or textured background. The white surface also adds light to the image.

I took this photograph of the clock to represent time. I took a photograph of a different type of clock which I presented above, I chose to take more than one photograph of different clocks to show different textures and styles. For my final piece I want to capture a photograph for each hour in the day and for 1-2 of the images I want to represent time, using a photograph of a clock. I want to have different styles of clocks to be presented in my final piece because I don't want a repeat of the same photograph, just with a different time showing. I really like the textures that are on this clock, the black and white filter enhanced them and adds depth to the image.

I took a close up photograph of this clock because I wanted to capture the smaller circles and the very faint circle outline which has been created onto the clock. Like the zoomed out photograph above I have made this image black and white, I did this because it enhances the depth of the black lettering and warn looking lines on the clock. The black and white filter also adds depth to the image. This photograph represents time and circles within time. The number 20 has a font that creates a circle within the letters, the number 2 curves round at the top which almost creates a circle shape.

This photograph represents the logo of the Mulberry sign. I took this photograph because my mum has a Mulberry purse which she uses everyday and is something that is part of her everyday routine. The Mulberry logo consits of the tree that is in the centre of the logo and each 'leaf' is shown by a circle/oval shape. The pink leather behind the logo adds texture which shows through the cut out of the Mulberry logo. The scratches on the logo also adds texture which shows that the purse has been used and is well loved. The screws that keep the logo onto the material of the purse are also a circular shape. I am going to use this photograph for my final piece because I want to show that people go shopping and use their purses in everyday situations. I will use this photograph for saturday as this is when I normally go shopping.

This photograph represents breakfast, I chose to take this photograph of the crumpet because the crumpet is circular and I placed it on a white circle plate. The lighting in this photograph isn't very bright and therefore creates a shadow. There are also tiny circles in the crumpet also which have been captured in this photograph. I again took Sam Kaplan's technique by taking this photograph from a birds eye view to capture the whole circular shape. The shadows around the plate and crumpet add depth and texture to the photograph. I placed the crumpet into the centre of the plate because I thought that by having it in the centre it captures the two circular objects clearly. I have cropped this photograph down so that the circle in placed in the middle of the frame, I also made sure that each side was the same distance away from my subject area.

This photograph represents traveling throughout the day, I saw loads of bikes parked up and took photographs of the wheels. The wheels on the bike are circular which represent circles in everyday life. I took this photograph outside with natural lighting, the wheel of the bike is bright and light. For my final piece I am going to cut around the circle so the photograph will just be the wheel and nothing distracting in the background. I am going to use this image for my final piece as I want to show someones everyday routine.

I took this photograph of salt and pepper shakers because the top of them have a circular shape, they are also used in everyday life. I also wanted to capture the small circles that create the letters 'P' and 'S' on the tops. I took this photograph outside in the sun and as you can see it has created a shadow on the left hand side of my subject. This photograph is part of my development work, I am going to crop this photograph down so that the circle is in the centre of the frame.

This photograph represents a sign on a bin. I took this because these are seen almost everywhere. I have cropped this photograph down so that the circle of the sign is in the centre of the fame and that each side has the same distance to each edge. This photograph is going to be used throughout my final piece, I am going to add it into some of the days that I want to show. If I wanted to develop this photograph further I would take another photograph of a bin sign and I would get down to the same level as it so it is at a slight angle, which this one is at. I will also try and find a bin with less marks on it but this just adds texture to the photograph.

This photograph shows a 'stop' button on a bus, this is something that most people see and use everyday in their daily routine. I have cropped this photograph down so it's just the circle. This crops out the background and the circle can be seen clearer. This photograph has a shallow depth of field where the background is blurry but the subject in the foreground is clear. I like this photograph because it captures all of the circular that are present in this frame, the dots on the sign are enhanced by the lighting around the button and also the blurry lights in the background. This photograph was taken at nighttime but the lights from the bus has lit up the button and captured the circular shape perfectly, however there is a bit of glare coming from the light just above the button.

This is a photograph of a pot which contains food. I took this photograph because most people have a packed lunch each day. I placed the container onto a white sheet of paper because I didn't want anything distracting in the background. I have also used Tom Leighton's technique by capturing the photograph from the above angle (Birds eye view). I did this because I wanted to capture the full circular shape of the container. On the lid of the container there are bigger and smaller circles. By taking this photograph from a birds eye view these circle shapes have been captured and enhanced. If I wanted to develop this photograph further I would take it into the studio so the I could make sure that the background is completely white and that there are shadows in the right places.

This photograph is of some Granola, I took this photograph to represent 'breakfast' as part of my daily routine. I placed this in a circular container to also represent a circle. The clear plastic container blends into the white background which makes the circle of the granola appear more polished and clean cut. I used this photograph throughout my final piece to represent Lunch and Dinner. I have cropped this photograph down so that the circle is placed in the centre of the frame, I did this because I want all of my final outcome photograph to be uniform and to look the same. The granola inside of the container adds texture and shape to the photograph, it adds depth and structure to the photograph. I used natural lighting to capture this photograph.

I took this photograph of eggs because I wanted to represent 'lunch' or 'dinner' as part of my everyday routine. The tops of the eggs are circular which is why I took Tom Leighton's technique and took this photograph from an above angle. I kept the eggs in the carton because I didn't want them to roll around and because the actual shape of an egg isn't circular, the top part of the egg when looked at from a birds eye view is circular. For my final piece I have cropped this photograph down so it only shows one egg in the centre.

This photograph represents lunch, I took this photograph of the top of the Hellmann's mayonnaise bottle because there are 2-3 different sized circles, these are enhanced by the way I have taken the photograph (Birds eye view). Which my photographer Tom Leighton uses to capture his own images.  I have used this photograph for my final piece to represent lunch, I have cropped this photograph down so that the circle of the lid is placed in the middle of the frame. The bright yellow and blue colours contrast against the plain white background, this adds depth and colour to the photograph.

This photograph represents a light bulb, I took this image because lights are used every single day.

This is a photograph of a slow cooker, I took this photograph because there is food cooking inside the slow cooker, I decided to take the photograph of the little hole that lets out steam. The droplets of water on the top also represent a circle.

This is a photograph of a slow cooker, I took this photograph because there is food cooking inside the slow cooker. The droplets of water on the top also represent a circle.
This is a photograph of a foundation bottle, I used Tom Leighton's technique and took the photograph from a birds eye view. I did this because it captures all of the circles on top of the bottle. The top two circles are in focus and the bigger circle around the edge is out of focus, this captures the circles on top and makes them clearer. I used a plain white background because I didn't want anything to distract from the circles on top of the bottle.
This photograph represents a pot of moisturiser, I took this photograph to reflect taking off makeup at night time and using skincare.
I have taken this photograph of some makeup to represent getting ready in the morning and putting on makeup. I placed the pot of makeup onto a white sheet of paper so the colour and shape of the makeup pot stands out. If I was to re-do this photograph I would use a studio to capture it as the lighting would be brighter and the background wouldn't look as grey.
This is a pot of makeup, this is to represent someone either getting ready for a night out or taking off their makeup at night time.
This is a photograph of a cake, I took this photograph to represent someone having 'afternoon tea and cake'.  I took this photograph in my dinning room on a glass table, by doing this you can see in the refection the lighting and the table legs. If I were to re-do this photograph I would take a cake into the studio or place it onto a white surface.

This is a photograph of a cycle sign, I took this because I see signs all the time and I wanted to capture one that represents a circle.

I have taken this photograph of someones eye to represent someone waking up in the morning. I have placed the iris in the centre of the photograph and cropped it with the same amount of distance all the way around.
This is a photograph of a circular shaped food (pancake). I placed the pancake onto a circular plate and I  used Tom Leighton's technique by capturing the subject from a birds eye view.

I decided to edit this photograph to make it into a circle, I used photoshop to add a black layer and to fade it out. I used black to represent someone sleeping. I have also cropped this photograph down so that the circle in central, and that theres the same distance all the way around. This photograph will be repeated several times in my final piece to represent the hours of sleeping.
